
UW–Madison Division of Extension will host a beef cow–calf workshop on Tuesday, July 28, at 6:00 PM, hosted by Starck Century Farm near Cadott, WI. This program is designed for cow–calf operators seeking to improve pasture and herd management practices and increase profitability. Topics include Managing Pastures for Long-Term Production, Breeding decisions for cow longevity, and Marketing the fall calf crop. The Starck family will discuss their transition to rotational grazing and herd genetic improvement. Â

- Breeding Decisions for Cow Longevity – Bill Halfman ↗️ and Ryan Sterry ↗️, Extension Beef Specialist and Regional Livestock Educator will discuss establishing goals, using genetic tools, and herd records to make informed decisions that balance performance with functionality and longevity.Â
- Marketing the Fall Calf Crop – Bill Halfman ↗️, Extension Beef Specialist hosts a discussion on the pros and cons of backgrounding and adding more weight to your feeder calves
